Thank You for Joining Our Kata Course with Sophie Wachter Sensei

Red Tiger Karate Club would like to extend a huge thank you to all the students and instructors who attended our recent Kata Course with Sophie Wachter Sensei, WKF World Kata Champion, on Saturday 9th May. With over 150 students and instructors taking part, the course was a fantastic success and an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

From the moment the course began, it was clear that we were training with an exceptionally talented, warm and friendly instructor. Her karate is incredibly powerful and effective. Sophie Sensei created an inspiring and welcoming atmosphere, allowing everyone to feel comfortable, motivated and focused throughout the day.

First Course – Heian Nidan

The first course concentrated on Heian Nidan, where we broke the kata down into separate sections before gradually bringing everything together. This approach allowed students to focus on individual movements, stances and transitions before understanding how the kata works as a whole.

Sophie Sensei delivered some brilliant demonstrations, highlighting important technical details, rhythm and intent. Her coaching enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of the kata, and it was clear that everyone left the session feeling they had learned a huge amount and could return to training with confidence and new ideas to continue improving their kata.

Sophie Sensei was also incredibly kind and generous with her time, taking photographs with the students and instructors. She has since signed all of the course tickets, which will be distributed by your senseis in classes this week — a wonderful memento from a very special day.

Second Course – Bunkai and Advanced Kata

The second course again focused on Heian Nidan, this time concentrating solely on bunkai. Black Belts and Sensei’s worked in groups of three to explore how the kata techniques are applied, and how to perform bunkai in a competition-style format.

For many attendees, this was their first experience working on bunkai in this way. It was fantastic to see everyone fully commit, work hard and really throw themselves into the training.

We then moved on to breaking down sections of Kata Gojushiho Dai, repeating movements over and over to refine technique and improve performance. This section truly demonstrated Sophie Sensei’s incredible attention to detail.

Our own Jaime Sensei, a member of the England National Kata Squad, was certainly made to work extremely hard — just as an England international athlete should! The standard of coaching throughout was outstanding.

An Inspirational Experience

By the end of the day, everyone left feeling inspired and having learned a tremendous amount. Training with Sophie Sensei was an absolute pleasure and an honour. Hearing about the sacrifices she has made and continues to make throughout her life in order to dedicate herself to karate and reach the highest level was both humbling and motivating. She deserves every inch of success she’s had.

Sophie Sensei is not only an exceptional athlete and coach, but also a truly inspirational person. We would like to thank her sincerely for visiting us from Germany, and we very much look forward to welcoming her back to Red Tiger Karate Club again in the future. We had such fun together all weekend.

Thank you once again to everyone who attended and helped make this course such a tremendous success. A special thank you must also go to the parents who gave up their valuable free time on a Saturday to attend and support the course. Experiences like this can have a truly lasting impact on the lives and training habits of our young karateka, and their importance cannot be overstated.

It is especially powerful for our young girls to have the opportunity to train with and be inspired by role models like Sophie Sensei. Seeing first‑hand what can be achieved through discipline, commitment and determination shows them that anything is possible, regardless of gender or size.

We are equally proud of our young boys, teenagers and men who supported and embraced this course. In a world where negative influences can sometimes dominate, there is none of that at Red Tiger Karate Club. Mutual respect, humility and technical excellence are at the heart of everything we do. Watching our senior Sensei’s demonstrate techniques (and be effortlessly thrown around) must command the utmost respect from everyone in attendance.

Hugely grateful to Paul Towler from kick and flick photography who came and took photos on the day. A link to these photos will be available soon so watch this space. We will also share some bunkai videos on our social media - facebook and instagram so keep an eye out for those too.

Can’t wait to do it all again!
