We are just back from what proved to be another hugely successful and enormously enjoyable weekend away with our karate students and friends at Haven Holiday Park in Prestatyn.
From the dojo, to the pub, to the pottery painting, to the swimming pool, beach and the go karts, there’s something to entertain all the family on our most popular event of the year.
We were honored to have 4 top class Instructors teaching over the two days and I think it is safe to say that the students learned absolutely loads and thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the process.
Big thanks to Michelle Baron who once again has managed to capture just how much fun was had in the dojo over the two days. Thanks also to Mike Baron Sensei who has processed them very quickly and made sure we are all look handsome/beautiful!

May we just extend a few more thank you’s to the families who book onto this event time and time again. Without your support we couldn’t do it. We always enjoy getting to know the parents and extended family members during the time spent together outside of the dojo and it is great to see so many new friendships formed.
All four of the Instructors were excellent and kept the students motivated and moving all day long. We’d like to thank Steve Carless Sensei, Matt Price Sensei, Ben Richardson Sensei and Paul Wolstencroft Sensei for sharing their expertise with us in such a fun and memorable way. We hope you had fun and would teach again for us in the future.
Our students were given a taste of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Ben Sensei and really enjoyed it.
Thanks to Nicola Holland Sensei and Emma Stansfield for their help with the signing in and administration. It is good to keep busy and provide the entertainment on the subs/injury bench. We should also thank our Chief Referee Mr Ron Matthews for officiating the basketball so professionally. Hopefully there weren’t too many violations of the rules and he might consider a repeat performance. He was very entertaining. And who knew that Mr Tony Davies Sensei was a slam dunk specialist? Awesome fun.
All the students who took part in the karate received a certificate for their effort and 4 lucky students were selected by the Guest Instructors for working hard. Well done to the following students who received large awards:
- Isabella Baron – Steve Carless Sensei Award
- Ellis Pindoria-Stott – Matt Price Sensei Award
- Christopher Dempsey – Paul Wolstencroft Sensei Award
- Jo Sysum – Ben Richardson Sensei Award
All were well deserved and it was quite amusing to see their shocked faces!
We held a Karaoke competition in the Mash and Barrell for those blessed (or not so blessed) in the singing department. There were a lot of top quality performances from our students and Instructors and it was very difficult to chose a winner so in the end, we chose two. Well done to Mark Grimley Sensei and John Dolan Sensei who picked up the two trophies by the end of a long and entertaining night!
Might have to add a dance competition next time as there were some fantastic shapes being thrown in the carousel bar after the karaoke finished!
It is always sad when it is over, but at least we can look forward to UTW 11.
All suggestions for improvement for next time and any guest Instructors you might want us to try – please speak to Rachael Sensei or email through the contact form.
