UTW 14: Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th October 2018

We have just returned from another hugely successful Ultimate Training Weekend. This was our 14th UTW and our third at the Haf ny Mor site. So far the feedback from those taking part and the Guest Instructors has been very positive, with lots of people already enquiring about the next one!

We applaud each and every one of you for making it to the park in the HORRENDOUS weather and treacherous driving conditions on Friday evening. Hopefully next time, the weather will be kind to us, the Sun will be shining and we can do some sessions outside!

We must begin by saying a massive thank you to all the students, RTK Instructors and families who attended. Without your support, these events would not be possible at all. Lasting friendships are made at the UTW both inside and outside of the dojo. This happens not only between the students, but also between the parents who genuinely enjoy getting to know one another better. Whether it was your first or fourteenth weekend, there is always something new to learn and so much fun to be had.

Our Instructor team are so important in many ways, they guide and motivate our students to take part in these events and really look after them whilst training. There are so many Instructors around who never step in line and feel that far too good to train alongside their own students. Thankfully none of those are Red Tiger Instructors. Our Instructors lead by example, train hard week in, week out and know that the learning never stops. They are always helpful in so many ways. From setting up the dojo, signing in, administering first aid, helping students, clearing everything away, organizing and editing photographs and looking after our Guest Instructors, all of our Instructors are absolute stars and we cannot thank you enough.

Thanks also to the Instructors who couldn’t make it to the weekend this time around but stayed back and kindly covered classes for us. It is much appreciated.

There are a few photographs that have already been posted on Facebook for you to look through. If you are not already a member of our Facebook group, you just need to look for ‘Red Tiger Karate’ in ‘groups’ and request to join. Once we approve you, you’ll be able to view and add to the photographs if you have any to share.

Huge thanks to our official photographers Michelle Baron and Paul Towler for capturing all the fun over the two days. Your hard work is much appreciated and I’m sure there will be some amazing shots. Mike Baron Sensei is already hard at work processing them and making you all look pretty the link is now available so you can view, download and share the shots you like. As always, thank you Mike Sensei.

You can see from the pictures on facebook that the karate was quite challenging and a tremendous amount was learned over the whole weekend. You really capture a sense of how much everybody enjoyed themselves throughout the training, and all those fantastic moments when the Guest Instructors showed us some incredible demonstrations.

Guest Instructors

Huge thanks to Hisham Saif Sensei of Al-Ghazali Shotokan Karate and his two senior students who were equally amazing, Lewis Bradbury Sensei of Steve Carless Sensei’s Walsall Karate and Danny Jordan Sensei & Matthew Yardy Sensei of Traditional Karate & Fitness (TKF) based in Norfolk all taught alongside our Chief Instructor Paul Wolstencroft Sensei.

They all delivered inspirational, imaginative and challenging sessions and I’m sure there will be a few sore legs over the next few days.

We have to say an extra mention to Lewis who suffered an ill-timed and very painful injury during the night on Friday. He was determined to crack on, teach our students and point-blank refused to be sent to hospital! His Dad Martin travelled over to Wales not once, but twice to make sure he was ok and had everything he needed. I feel they both went above and beyond what was needed or expected but we are very grateful. We will not forget your professionalism, bravery and determination. What a superstar! Wishing you a very speedy recovery.

Congratulations to the following students who were awarded trophies by our Guest Instructors:

  • Paul Wolstencroft Sensei Award: Aaron Jefferson
  • Hisham Saif Sensei Award: Hannah Towler
  • Lewis Bradbury Sensei Award: Nathan Dabbs
  • Danny Jordan Sensei Award: Hanna Taimoor
  • Matthew Yardy Sensei Award: Sophie Rothwell

Our Chief Instructor Paul as always did a fab job of hosting the event and did especially well this time considering he was mostly on his own!

We are already planning the next one for June 2019 so any or all feedback will be welcomed and gratefully received. We know there is always room for improvement so your honest opinions matter. Please look out for information coming out in early 2019 regarding the dates and Instructors booked for the next one and we can try and make it even better!

Last note to say Matt Price Sensei was missed greatly and I will do everything I can to arrange a date with Haven so that we can have him attend and teach on the UTW15! It’s definitely not the same without Matt Sensei dishing out the punishment. I am sure you will give out some extra at Squad and Senior Class on the 29th October!
