Thank you to all the awesome Red Tigers who attempted their next grade at our South Manchester grading at the National Taekwondo Centre last Sunday 13th October.
It was such a busy day with an excellent turnout. All students did very well and worked hard to impress the Instructors. We are pleased to report that the vast majority of students who attempted their grading were successful. Those who were unsuccessful worked hard and will come again stronger next time around.
There were plenty white belts attempting their first full grade of 9th Kyu orange belt. This group were extremely good and could correctly perform their combinations, Heian Shodan and Gohan Kumite to an excellent standard. We’d like to welcome all our new white belts and we hope that you enjoyed your first experience with us at grading. Looking at some of the awesome talent among that group, this will be your first grading of many.
We were also very impressed with our new red and yellow belts who are really settling into their training. They showed us some absolutely brilliant karate and gave it 100% from the beginning to the end of the grading.
There were also some fab students from the Wilmslow class and Lorraine Sensei’s classes. There was also some really good adults including Linda Whipp, Zena Clarke, Mel Horrocks, Tina Swali, Anne-Marie Alger, Jane Murison and Claire Chaffer. They all prove that Karate Mums rule!!!!! Karate Dad’s are also awesome obviously.
The effort from everyone was exceptionally good and where there is effort, there is always marvellous karate to watch.
We were particularly impressed with the students going for green belts, purple belts and purple and white belts. You all showed that you are still enthusiastic to learn and improve having hit an intermediate level. These middle grades are usually where we lose the most people as they decide they’ve had enough. We saw some outstanding performers in these grade groups and we would hope that you all continue to stay inspired and push on toward the brown belt. You all have what it takes. A couple of students even double graded – Layla Davies from the Denton/Reddish Dojo’s double graded from Red to Green belt and Robert Sissons from Debbie and Dave Sensei’s class double graded from orange to yellow belt. Outstanding achievements from both Robert and Layla and they are two names to look out for in the future for sure.
Our student of the grading was also selected from the intermediate group and was well deserved. Dexter Earley from our Reddish dojos worked extremely hard and showed an exceptionally high standard for his grade and age. He successfully earned both his purple belt and the Student of the Grading trophy. Not a bad day at the office for Dexter. Keep up the great work little dude!
We saw 3 students successfully attempt their 4th Kyu and they were all brilliant. Well done to Isaac Shakos who never disappoints and turned in a superb performance as always. Zara Bathurst and Roxana G-Zadeh were also really impressive and have improved tremendously. Great work girls, keep it up the great work.
It is great to see lots of siblings and families doing karate together.
The day belonged to the higher grades however who have dedicated a few years to their training and really stood out.
3rd Kyu Brown Belt
Danny, Patrick and Claire Chaffer – It’s always special to see families grading together, sharing the highs and lows of the day and supporting each other through it. All three have made fantastic progress between 4th Kyu and 3rd Kyu and showed that they have reached a good standard. Danny always tries really hard and what he may lack in technique, he makes up for in effort. Patrick was a little superstar and gave it 100% effort and concentrated brilliantly for such a young student. Mum Claire has made massive improvement and showed great determination to get her brown belt. Congratulations to all three of you. You are catching Zoe up now!
Isaac Jepson – Excellent performance from this absolute powerhouse. Isaac was really impressive from start to finish. His Katas could do with a little tidying but his kumite is awesome. Great grading Isaac keep up the fantastic work!
Sophia Hulley – This is very promising young lady indeed. She was awesome throughout the grading and there are no weak areas in her karate. Her Kata’s were beautiful and her kumite was top drawer. Well done missus and keep it up!
Jaydon Slater – Fantastic performance from Jaydon who has made massive progress between 4th Kyu and 3rd Kyu. He works really hard and tries his best to correct everything you ask him to. His Karate is very strong and he still has plenty of room for improvement. This young man is going to amazing! Keep up the good work.
2nd Kyu Brown Belt and White Stripe
Catherine Vernum – Catherine has been training with us for many years and has reached a really high standard. Her karate was so impressive and so was her attitude. A great student. She was a pleasure to watch and somehow I feel there is still more to come. Keep up the great work and you’ll be an awesome black belt!
Zoe Chaffer – Wow, another much improved member of the Chaffer family. Cath Sensei and Coral are clearly doing a great job to shape students this good. Zoe tried so hard throughout the grading and is really starting to look like a black belt. Keep it up Zoe, you are fab.
Mickey Dempsey – This is the best I have ever seen Mickey train. He looked focused, super-sharp and 100% determined to get his 2nd Kyu. He has massive potential and is really starting to fulfill it. What an excellent performance Mickey, we were well impressed and looking forward to seeing you for 1st Kyu in the near future.
Thomas Whipp – All the credit in the world goes to Thomas Whipp, he has been training for years and years and has made progress at a steady pace. More recently it’s like he has pressed the fast forward button, he’s so strong, works hard every class and concentrates brilliantly. We were super impressed with Thomas and the standard he has reached. Congratulations and keep it up now. You are nearly there!
1st Kyu Brown and Double White Stripe Belt
Joel Mander – Awesome performance from Joel who is so consistent. He never misses classes and always works hard. He thoroughly enjoys learning karate and working hard. He showed he has everything it takes to make it all the way to Black Belt and clearly he’s not far off at all. Hige congratulation Joel. You were excellent.
Charlotte Griffiths – What can we say about Charlotte’s karate? She is just SUPERB. Naturally gifted, athletic, super speedy and would train everyday if she could. She’s a great student to have in the class. It’s a good job we know how to get the best out of her because from time to time she can be a little bit ‘too relaxed’ but as soon as she gets told, she’s on it. Excellent performance at grading Charlotte and |I can’t wait to see how amazing you’ll be when you go for black belt. I’m sure Jayden is very proud of his mate!
Jayden Clarke – Have we saved the best till last here, he’s definitely one of them! Great grading from Jayden who again has all the talent in the World but from time to time needs a polite ‘nudge’! I love teaching Jayden, somebody who is rosy red cheeked by the end of the warm up is my kind of student. He always works hard and knows that he needs to speed up a little. I think he’s so busy trying to get everything to be perfect. That’s no bad thing though and I know you’ll keep working hard and make a fab black belt when the opportunity comes! I think you made Charlotte very proud of you!
Huge thanks to all the Instructors who do all the hard work to prepare the students and make sure that they get their chance to shine at grading. They also help massively with the grading event from signing in to teaching sections to encouraging the students to keep going, you really are the best and we appreciate you all.
Thanks to the parents and supporters who keep the students going to karate week in week out, our most successful students are always the ones who train consistently, who never miss class and those who have supportive parents.
Overall it was a fantastic day so WELL DONE. Photo’s will be available to collect at classes.
