We are delighted to inform you that another one of our Trainee’s on the Assistant program – Lee Edwards has passed his Assistant Instructor exam. He is the 8th adult to have qualified this year which is fantastic. Lee is a thoroughly nice chap and has been a dedicated Assistant for the last 18 months in the Thornleigh class. He did brilliantly during his assessment, which was done by Mike Beckwith Sensei on Monday 9th November.
Mike Beckwith Sensei made the following comments:
“Lee is a very technical karate ka when in line but sometimes lacks confidence when in front of people so teaching a class, I felt, was going to be a big and nerve wracking experience for him.
I have to say that he did really well setting off with a good steady basics session with correct terminology and good demos.
As he got more confident he moved onto stretching and kicks, again with good demos especially Mawashi Geri when he got everyone on all fours to demonstrate how the kick should “feel”.
His Kata section was one of the better ones I have seen for a while taking them all through both Heian Shodan and Heian Sandan with some good, concise bunkai and explanations. Finally finishing with a good disciplined kumite section and he even had time for a game at the end. With more confidence I’m sure Lee will become an excellent Instructor.”
Congratulations Lee, welcome to the team. Lee will continue to develop and improve his teaching skills under the guidance of Paul Wolstencroft Sensei and fingers crossed, will be ready to take on his own class in 2016!
