Kata Tournament Information

There are only three weeks left to practise for our first ever Club Kata Tournament. This takes place on SATURDAY 27th FEBRUARY at the Co-operative Academy of Manchester, Plant Hill Road, Manchester. M9 0WQ. Time: 10am-4pm.

Individual categories will take place in the morning and team categories will place in the afternoon. Remember, there is no need to be there all day. You just check the website the day before and you can see what time you will be on. 40 trophies and over 200 medals will be up for grabs on the day! You have to be in it to win it and there are no prizes for sitting on the sofa.

A certificate will be awarded to everyone who takes part.

To help students to be better prepared for our upcoming Kata Tournament I can now confirm that we will splitting the categories the following ways:

Individual Kata

30 Individual events will run and you will be put in the most suitable category once all the entries have been received. You will be against people of a similar age and grade. The categories will be split as fairly as possible.

Gold, Silver and Joint Bronze medals will be awarded meaning that there will be medals for the students placing in the top 4. Prestigious categories such as Black Belts, Adult Male and Adult Female will receive a Trophy for 1st Place instead of a Gold Medal.

 

Junior Pairs Kata 16 years and under: 

Category 1: Pairs performing Kata Heian Shodan, Heian Nidan and Heian Sandan

Category 2: Pairs performing Kata Heain Yondan, Heian Godan and Tekki Shodan

Category 3: Pairs performing Kata Bassai Dai and above (Trophies for 1st Place)

 

Adult Pairs Kata for 17 years and over: 

Any Kata with trophies for students coming in 1st Place

 

Junior Team Kata (3 students in a team) 16 years and under:

Category 1: Pairs performing Kata Heian Shodan, Heian Nidan and Heian Sandan

Category 2: Pairs performing Kata Heain Yondan, Heian Godan and Tekki Shodan

Category 3: Pairs performing Kata Bassai Dai and above (Trophies for 1st Place)

 

Adult Team Kata (3 students in a team) for 17 years and over: 

Any Kata with trophies for students coming in 1st Place

 

Siblings Kata – can be step-brothers or sisters (Up to 3 in a team) 

Category 1: Any Heain Kata

Category 2: Tekki Shodan and above with trophies for students coming in 1st place

 

Family Kata (in teams of up 4 ) 

Category 1: Any Heain Kata

Category 2: Tekki Shodan and above with trophies for students coming in 1st place

 

Individual Junro Kata 

Category 1: Under 16 years Brown Belts and Above only with trophies for students coming in 1st place

Category 2: 17 Years and over  Brown Belts and Above only with trophies for students coming in 1st place

 

We would encourage students thinking about entering our tournament to just have a go. The day is a lot of fun for all the family, if you win, it is just a bonus. You will be awarded a certificate just for taking part. It is all about enjoying yourself and seeing where you are up to. There is nothing to be worries about. All of our Instructors are the judges so you know you are in safe and friendly hands.
