Congratulations to all the Red Tigers brave enough to enter our tournament and test their skills against others of a similar age and grade. Thank you all for making it such a brilliant day. The standard was really impressive throughout. Huge thanks to the officials who worked hard together all day, setting up, judging and helping us clear up afterwards. The event was another successful one because our team are so dedicated to the club and the students.
Thanks to Jessica, Ben and Scott who provided the refreshments on the day and Helen for selling stock items.
There were two Instructors with very big birthdays yesterday who both chose to spend most of their day at our Tournament. Such dedication should be admired greatly and we hope both Jade Sensei and Tony Sensei had a fab day and enjoyed their birthday cakes!
Thanks should also go to the parents and supporters without whom, we would have no event. It’s you who enables our students to take part and it’s you who shares in the joy or picks up the pieces and sends them straight back to karate. We appreciate your support.
We are proud of all of our competitors because win, lose or draw, our Club is one big family. We stick together and support one another. If you went home disappointed, then it just wasn’t your day. Brush yourself off, work hard in class, ask your Sensei for some advice and try to your very best improve. We are all winners because we have all learned and now, have the opportunity to get better.
Do not be jealous of the winners, maybe they have been training longer than you, maybe they have more experience, maybe you just picked the wrong Kata to perform on the day. Learn from them and look at your own karate, get to know your strengths. Are you fulfilling your potential or just coasting along? Ask yourself what you can do to get better. There are no favourites here. Ninety nine percent of the time the winners are just the same as you, they’ve been in your shoes and lost at tournaments, the difference is, they have taken defeat and used it as their motivation. They’ve kept on trying, remained focused and stayed determined.
Our next Club Championships is a Kumite Tournament which will take place in Autumn. There is also a JKS Novice Competition coming up in May. If you are interested in competing regularly either regionally or nationally our squad class meets every Monday evening at Thornleigh Salesian High School in Bolton from 7pm-8pm. It is a very intensive and physically demanding class which is taught by Paul Wolstencroft Sensei and Mike Baron Sensei and attendance would be essential if you were to want to compete outside of Red Tiger.
Here are the lucky medal winners, make sure you take them back to show your classmates this week and wear them with pride. Well done to you all!
