JKS Novice Competition Results

We sent a strong team to the JKS Novice Competition in York on Sunday 1st May. It was a superbly organised day and each and everyone of our students who took part thoroughly enjoyed the experience. For some it was their first external competitions and for a few others it was their second. Huge thank you to York and Selby Karate for the invite. We will be back next year!

Our team comprised of the following students who were brave enough to put themselves forward and give up their time to represent our Club:

The whole group did brilliantly and even managed to win a few medals. We are proud of all who took part and want to thank especially the girls from the England Squad – Hannah Cain, Lori-Ann Moran and Grace Baron for coaching and helping out on the day. Mike Baron Sensei and Dave Robertson Sensei also provided valuable coaching and encouraged the students throughout. Thanks also to Teresa Withington Sensei, Paul Wolstencroft Sensei, Nichola Rose Sensei and Paul Critchard Sensei who refereed all day, your contribution was greatly appreciated.

We are delighted to report that the following students won medals in their respective categories:

 

Molly Austin Hogsden – Gold for Kumite

Su Matthews – Grand Champion – Gold for Kata and Kumite

Izzy Baron – Gold for Kata

Louis Johnson – Gold for Kata

Ron Matthews – Silver for Kumite

Zak Thomas Blackhurst – Bronze for Kata

 

There is another external tournament which we can enter coming up in June. The Cumbiam Open in Penrith, Cumbria is on Sunday 12th June. All entries and fees must be received by Sensei Rachael by Friday 3rd June. There is a squad training class on Monday evening with Paul Wolstencroft Sensei at Thornleigh Salesian Sports College between 7pm and 8pm. The cost of this is £6 a class. This is only open to students who are on the JKS England Squad or representing Red Tiger at the Cumbrian Open.

Lets send another strong team. There are lots of categories for Kyu Grades and remember there are no medals for sitting on the couch. You have to be in it to win it!
