Thank you for entering our Kata Tournament, remember our competition is for the purposes of enjoyment. Win, lose or draw, everybody will be awarded a certificate just for taking part. Best of luck to everyone who is brave enough to put themselves out there on the mat.

Parents and supporters are always welcome and it is free to spectate. All students under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Remember, you are representing our Karate Club and your conduct and behaviour needs to be spot on. There is a practise dojo for you to warm up, rehearse and stretch off. Anyone found disturbing those wanting to practise will be disqualified from the competition and have any medals already achieved revoked.

Date: Sunday 24th June

Location:

Our Lady’s RC High School

Alworth Road,

Higher Blakeley

Manchester

Postcode: M9 0RP

Events take place between 10am-4pm approximately. You do not need to be there all day, you can simply turn up for your event and leave after. The huge competitor of the day trophy will be awarded by Chief Referee Paul Wolstencroft Sensei once all the events have finished.

There is plenty of free parking at the venue. Tea, coffee, bottled water, sandwiches, snacks and cakes will be available to purchase on the day at reasonable prices. We will also be selling items from our online shop such as adidas uniforms, wkf approved equipment, club hoodies and t-shirts, gum shields plus much more.

You are very welcome to take photographs on the day providing you do not get too close to the matted areas.

All students need to turn up at least 20 minutes before the start of your event to register with the Ring Runner. It is advisable that you warm up and practise before competing as there will not be a chance to do it once your event begins. Do not forget to bring your license with you and we will record that you have attended an event. .

Please make sure you check all FOUR rings for your name. If you cannot see your name or you think you may have been placed in the wrong category, please contact your own Instructor and let them know.  Alternatively, you can send an email to: info@redtigerkarateclub.co.uk and I will resolve the situation for you or you can text me Rachael on 07825 446 825. My phone is broken so I cannot answer incoming calls but will be able to reply to emails or texts.

Events will run to a tight schedule so please make sure you are where you are supposed to be at the right time. All Katas will be judged using the Red and Blue Flag system, then the top four will compete in a final round and then the scoring will change to points.

Students who are purple and white belt and below may perform any Heian Kata in their preliminary rounds. Brown belts and above, we will select a Heian Kata for you to perform at the same time as your opponent.

Individual Kumite events will follow immediately after the Kata events so please make sure you have all of your equipment with you.

Do not worry if you have been placed in two events scheduled to run at the same time. Our ring runners will come and get you as and when they need you.

Medals, certificates and trophies will be awarded immediately after each event. You will all get a certificate just for taking part.

Students will be given Red or Blue Belts to wear when competing so there is no need to bring your coloured belt.

There should be no arguing with our officials on the day. Appeals may be considered by Chief Referee Paul Wolstencroft providing you have video evidence of any errors being made by our table recorders or timekeepers. Appeals that are based on the fact that you disagree with the referee or judges decision making will be dismissed immediately. WKF rules are very complicated and our Instructors have been training for weeks in order to help us run a fair and professional tournament. Criticism is not welcome from those who do not train in karate or know nothing about the rules of competitive karate. We will all try our best, it is a Club Competition – not the WKF World Championships!

Remember, it is all about showing fantastic spirit, good sportsmanship and respect for others. If all students and supporters can conduct themselves in this manner, we’ll all have a great time.

Good luck to everyone and we look forward to hosting another hugely enjoyable and successful day.
