Our Club Championships was held on Saturday 6th July at Our Lady’s High School in Higher Blakely.
I have to say the standard of karate was excellent across the board. Our students have improved so much, even the lower grade categories were brilliant. We have quite a few grand champions who won both the Kata and Kumite competitions for their age and grade group. This is an outstanding achievement so well done to the following 10 Grand Champions:
Jack Yates, Coral Gavaghan, Callum Baker, Ella-Marie Young, Alex Ryan, Lola Fellone, Loui D’ Attorre, Gina Farrance, Lori-Ann Moran and Andy Matanle
Only THREE of these Grand Champions (Lola, Lori-Ann and Gina) are on our squad, which just goes to show just how high the standard here at Red Tiger is.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the students that took part in our event. Win, lose or draw, we hope you enjoyed your day and learned from the experience. These events are put on for you guys to test yourself against others of a similar level, under pressure which improves your karate and helps prepare you for Black Belt/Dan Grades.
It was a fantastic day with over 150 students competing across 27 categories taking home 180 bespoke medals/trophies.
Everyone who took part was rewarded with a lovely certificate. Well done.
Thanks to all of the parents and supporters who took the time out to come along and watch. The atmosphere was absolutely buzzing all day long.
The biggest thanks go to our Instructor team as they are the ones who make everything happen. They push you hard in classes, co-ordinate all the entries, they turned up really early to help us set up the event and stayed late to help us pack everything away and leave the venue tidy. They worked tirelessly all day to make sure the event ran smoothly and everyone was happy. We are so lucky to have you and couldn’t do it all without you.
Mike Beckwith Sensei, Mike Baron Sensei, Paul Wolstencroft and Teresa Withington Sensei were all Head Officials and did a fab job of keeping everything running as it should. Teresa Sensei has been referee training us all in senior class for the last few weeks too and I think it made a big difference on the day. Great job!
Thanks to our Ring Runners and Volunteers including Emily Withington, Marie Pratley and Julie Moran – you are all stars.
Deb Alty baked plenty of beautiful cakes and worked hard not only at the event but in the run up to the event and is an absolute diamond. She along with quite a lot of the squad parents and husband John donated all of the proceeds from the refreshments stall to the squad fund. Danni Pindoria also ran a couple of football cards which we have now scratched off the winning teams:
Card 1: Swindon Town – Kai (Kai Foley?)
Card 2: Notts Forest – Ben D (Ben Duckworth?)
Both Kai and Ben D have one £20 each and we will bring that along to senior class this evening – well done.
A total of £326.05 was raised for the squad fund and this will be split between all of the squad members who have been selected for the JKS International Cup in Dublin. Thanks also to Helen Wolstencroft who ran the stock shop all day.
Last thank you before we list the full results is to Michelle Baron, Grace Baron and Paul Towler who spent all day snapping away with their cameras and have got some amazing shots, I think I saw a couple of budding photographers of the future Hannah Towler and Izzy Baron taking some shots too. Once again, thank you so much it is greatly appreciated and you always capture just how much fun we have on the day. I will post a link on the news page when the photos become available. Feel free to download them but please credit Vanilla Pod Studios and/or Paul Towler.
Below is a full list of results from each Tatami, congratulations to all who medalled this time around. Our next Club Competition will be scheduled to take place in late Feb 2020. I for one, am looking forward to it already!
