Ultimate Training Weekend 13: Photographs and Write Up

We have just returned from another hugely successful Ultimate Training Weekend. This was our 13th UTW and our second at the Haf ny Mor site.  So far the feedback from those taking part and the Guest Instructors has been very positive, with lots of people already enquiring about the next one!

We must begin by saying a massive thank you to all the students, RTK Instructors and families who attended. Without your support, these events would not be possible at all. Lasting friendships are made at the UTW both inside and outside of the dojo. This happens not only between the students, but also between the parents who genuinely enjoy getting to know one another better.

Our Instructor team are so important in many ways, they guide and motivate our students to take part in these events and really look after them whilst training. There are so many Instructors around who never step in line and feel that far too good to train alongside their own students. Thankfully none of those are Red Tiger Instructors. Our Instructors lead by example, train hard week in, week out and know that the learning never stops. They are always helpful in so many ways. From setting up the dojo, signing in, administering first aid, helping students, clearing everything away, organizing and editing photographs and looking after our Guest Instructors, all of our Instructors are absolute stars and we cannot thank you enough.

There are a few photographs that have already been posted on Facebook for you to look through. If you are not already a member of our Facebook group, you just need to look for ‘Red Tiger Karate’ in ‘groups’ and request to join. Once we approve you, you’ll be able to view and add to the photographs if you have any to share.  Mike Baron Sensei and Michelle Baron have already processed the official photos and kindly uploaded them to their Vanilla Pod photography site. All the photographs are fab! Thank you both so much for your hard work and expertise. Thanks also to Paul Towler who has also caught some magical moments from the weekend. You can see from the pictures that the karate was quite challenging and a tremendous amount was learned over the whole weekend. You really capture a sense of how much everybody enjoyed themselves throughout the training, and all those fantastic moments when the Guest Instructors showed us some incredible demonstrations.

Guest Instructors

Steve Carless Sensei, Johann Santos, Lewis Bradbury, Gary Welch Sensei, Matt Price Sensei and Paul Wolstencroft Sensei all taught imaginative and enjoyable sessions. Our Red Tiger Squad also got the chance to train with elite competitors Johann and Lewis and they learned so much from this unique opportunity. We really enjoyed all of the different aspects of training and the learning opportunity is so worth the hard work and aching for days after!

Congratulations to the following students who were awarded trophies by our Guest Instructors:

  • Steve Carless Sensei Award: Andy Matanle
  • Johann Santos Sensei Award: Hannah Towler
  • Lewis Bradbury Sensei Award: Lola Fellone
  • Gary Welch Sensei: James Sherlock
  • Paul Wolstencroft Sensei: Lewis Thomas
  • Matt Price Sensei: Mike Beckwith

Lastly, we must thank Matt Price Sensei who is the one person who originally inspired us to join the JKS and has been guiding our karate ever since. This is one very special Instructor you can always rely on to impress and inspire your students. The karate of everyone in our Club has improved so much since beginning to train with Matt Sensei and we can’t thank him enough. Matt Sensei always delivers original teaching ideas and well planned class. He is a formidable karateka makes karate look so easy, yet completely devastating at the same time. There is nothing Matt Sensei cannot do or teach very well and he always leads by example. No wonder he is such a busy Instructor.

It was very fitting that Matt Sensei chose one of our other favourite people in the whole world – Mike Beckwith Sensei to receive his award. Mike Sensei and Leesa Sensei are both so dedicated to our Karate Club. They really are the unsung heroes of our Club. So often their hardwork goes unrecognized and unnoticed. They are so much more than two Instructors in a pretty large Club. They both offer much more and mean such a lot to so many people. Not only do they ALWAYS help us in every way they can, be it by covering classes, carrying boxes, setting up events, proof reading, problem solving, looking after and mentoring our Assistant Instructors, teaching sections at gradings and courses, signing in, etc.etc. etc. the list is endless. They really are our backbone, our mentors, our confidante’s, our advisors, our therapists, our referee, our training buddies but above all; are two of the most kind, genuine and loveliest people you could ever meet. They’ve been by our side through thick and thin from the start and I sure till the very end!

They’ve touched the lives of so many, past and present in such a positive way and wouldn’t even know it.

Such a special pair who we are very lucky to and fortunate to work alongside! Matt Sensei’s choice was an excellent one and we couldn’t be happier that Mike Sensei got some well deserved praise and recognition by somebody he deeply respects. Well done!

We love you Mike and Leesa – you have the patience of saints to put up with us two for so long!

Our Chief Instructor Paul as always did a fab job of hosting the event and it was lovely to see our friend Gary Welch Sensei 5th Dan and his wife Tracey visiting and training with us all. We have missed you and you are always welcome at Red Tiger.

We are already planning the next one for later on this year so any or all feedback will be welcomed and gratefully received. We know there is always room for improvement so your honest opinions matter. Please look out for information coming out over the next few months regarding the dates and Instructors booked for the next one and we can try and make it even better!
